Serai, Empire Gallery Subang

We were strolling at Empire Gallery for some food and walked towards this place to checkout the nice ambiance. We were welcomed by this sweet looking lady in her 40s, and she politely introduced us to the restaurant and asked if we would like to try some food there. All 3 of us just nodded in agreement, probably mesmerised by her politeness and decided to give the place a try. Serai, the name of the restaurant with cosy ambiance.

For a start, we had some mango salad. The mango, sliced thinly are sweet, spicy and sourish, really a yummy appetizer, and it makes one crave for more...

As always, though we will be ordering main courses, we would not hesitate to try other dishes that we think would be nice. The sotong cili has an acquired taste, not too bad a pick. A little on the salty side but would be great if it is eaten with the fragrant rice.

Their signature dish, the Serai Platter (RM25.00). A complete meal with delicious ayam berempah, satay, acar and mutton (I think) together with fragrant rice. Rather meaty, but this platter can comfortably feed 2.

We loved nasi goreng kampung, especially those fried by the little random stalls cos they never go wrong. This nasi goreng kampung is a little more pricey than those from the little stalls (RM15.00) but this comes with some keropok. Its ok-la, would like it better if it has more ikan bilis and cili padi. But not too bad a meal.

After a hearty meal and stuffed, we decided that we have some space for desserts. So we ordered something to share, cake with lotsa nuts. Can't remember what it is called, but certainly delicious and not too creamy. The lady sitting beside our table told us that we should try the pavlova too. She said that they ran out of it already or else she would have ordered it. Will definitely return for the pavlova!!

We were too engrossed with the food and forgot to take pictures of the drinks. I had the ice blended serai lychee (RM8.50) which was really good. Never thought that the combination will produce such distinct taste. callmeCupcake had sirap selasih which looked really interesting, like tadpoles swimming in rose syrup. Will definitely return for other food from the menu and the dessert bar!

Tokyo : Day 3 : Harajuku

Harajuku is one of my favourite places in Japan. It is also home to one of the most important shrine, the Meiji Shrine, built in loving memory of the Emperor and Empress Meiji. Takeshita Dori and Omotessandori are two popular spots in Harajuku. While Takeshita Dori is for youngsters looking for good bargains such as bags and accessories, Omotessandori caters to a more sophisticated young crowd, the yuppies.

we went on a little adventure while we were at harajuku...

we were searching high and low for this 'insider only' gyoza place and when we finally did, it was worth every sweat! it is located behind the popular omotessan dori street.

just beside the gyoza shop was this popular asian cuisine restaurant serving asian food from almost all over the world except malaysia.

hello kitty ice-cream parlour - along omotessan dori

hello kitty ice-cream! super creamy, super tasty, super cute!

Still Ginza, Tokyo

the food here was discovered at a sort of express japan meals nearby the yurakucho jr station in ginza. the prices vary but they are all between 650 - 900 yen (max RM 35).

mum's favourite dish from japan.

super good tasting cold noodles...almost like a noodle salad!

More From Ginza, Tokyo

more from ginza...

one of the many suppers i had in ginza, all thanks to not one but THREE convenience stores strategically located opposite the hotel hehe

belgian waffles (not very nice)

the soft drinks in japan are not sweet at all, making them even more wonderful to drink at all times without risking diabetes!

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee

This is another one of our lunch option when food around office becomes super boring and you really cant take mamak food anymore! Chili Pan Mee~~

However one must be patient when they are here during the lunch crowd as you could be waiting for quite awhile!

Chefs busy doing their thing - pan mee and more pan mee to feed the hungry lunch crowd

Best to order some 'liu' to keep those stomach growls away!

Finally it arrives!!

Chili to spice things up!

Be careful how much chili you put unless you want to be sweating away while you finish your pan mee~ and get an Angelina Jolie pout at the same time hahaha and lets not talk about the next stage...if you get what i mean :p

There you go...Kin Kin's famous chili pan mee..

Now mix it all up....normally im not a fan of egg yolks but in this pan mee its one of the vital ingredient for its yumminess!!

Soup to wash down the chili pan mee

Total damage : 8 bowls of pan mee + 5 cups of herbal drink + 1 bowl of liu = RM60.50 (think the pan mee is about RM5.50 per bowl)

Konnichiwa~ Tokyo : Day 1 (Ginza)

girls, you MUST visit japan at least ONCE before you die. it may be dubbed one of the (or is it THE) most expensive city in the world but i tell you, every yen is worth the experience especially the food. everything is of the best quality, it's a good thing japs are fussy...we benefit!

JAL pre-introducing japan to us...it was really tasty!

pick your poison on JAL
impressive drinks selection onboard no?

i call this meat&eggy rice
lunch was ordered via a vending machine, now my japan experience has officially started...it was around 700+ yen (rm21-rm25)

sukiyaki & shabu shabu buffet
dinner was fantastic! it was the most expensive meal i had in tokyo but it was worth every yen! (around rm 100+ per person)

the thin meat slices were so fine and just so fresh! straight from the boiling sauce/water and straight into raw egg...the taste...the omfg taste in your mouth is just bursting with so much goodness that i couldn't believe i just ate beef and raw egg! (girls, you know i don't fancy anything but chicken meat and raw egg? i couldn't even tolerate oozing yolk of a fried egg, let alone raw) and i find myself 'kiap-ing' another slice!

With love....

Specially made egg tart from our dearest friend, ylin..... it was really a great pleasure to finally get a taste of her homemade egg tart....the egg tart was of the right consistency...the pastry was just nice and firm (i.e not crumbly) and the middle part was soft and smooth...thanks for making time to bake it for us!!!

yummyyy!!

one day you will show us how to make it right?
