Serai, Empire Gallery Subang

We were strolling at Empire Gallery for some food and walked towards this place to checkout the nice ambiance. We were welcomed by this sweet looking lady in her 40s, and she politely introduced us to the restaurant and asked if we would like to try some food there. All 3 of us just nodded in agreement, probably mesmerised by her politeness and decided to give the place a try. Serai, the name of the restaurant with cosy ambiance.

For a start, we had some mango salad. The mango, sliced thinly are sweet, spicy and sourish, really a yummy appetizer, and it makes one crave for more...

As always, though we will be ordering main courses, we would not hesitate to try other dishes that we think would be nice. The sotong cili has an acquired taste, not too bad a pick. A little on the salty side but would be great if it is eaten with the fragrant rice.

Their signature dish, the Serai Platter (RM25.00). A complete meal with delicious ayam berempah, satay, acar and mutton (I think) together with fragrant rice. Rather meaty, but this platter can comfortably feed 2.

We loved nasi goreng kampung, especially those fried by the little random stalls cos they never go wrong. This nasi goreng kampung is a little more pricey than those from the little stalls (RM15.00) but this comes with some keropok. Its ok-la, would like it better if it has more ikan bilis and cili padi. But not too bad a meal.

After a hearty meal and stuffed, we decided that we have some space for desserts. So we ordered something to share, cake with lotsa nuts. Can't remember what it is called, but certainly delicious and not too creamy. The lady sitting beside our table told us that we should try the pavlova too. She said that they ran out of it already or else she would have ordered it. Will definitely return for the pavlova!!

We were too engrossed with the food and forgot to take pictures of the drinks. I had the ice blended serai lychee (RM8.50) which was really good. Never thought that the combination will produce such distinct taste. callmeCupcake had sirap selasih which looked really interesting, like tadpoles swimming in rose syrup. Will definitely return for other food from the menu and the dessert bar!
