Kuantan Finally!! Part 2

the next day, everyone started early despite having only slept a couple of hours due to our insane addiction to mahjong.

it rained early in the morning and was still drizzling a little but the girls were quite determined to hike up Panorama Hill (which kuan, our kuantan friend/guide/driver/organiser told us was not a tough feat at all but he was so very wrong).

for me personally, hill + me = not the best of friends. and after the hike, i have no intention to suggest otherwise.

it was a tough climb. i guess not so much of the feat but my own mental preparedness for the whole thing. of course i was not silly enough to think it was a stroll in the park but it was not exactly what i expected either. i gave up twice and wouldn't have bothered reaching the peak if it wasn't for pyee who kept insisting we'd only be doing this once and we'd definitely not climb the damn hill again so better we conquer it and live to tell the glory than admit defeat. W-O-W and so i huffed and puffed and climbed!

yay! i did reach the top after much encouragement from the never-say-die and super patient Sergeant Chan.

at this point, i sent a mental note to myself :

i.will.never.EVER.do.this.again.

going down hill.

crazy scary stairs!

yong tau foo noodles that we had after the climb, apparently the tofu is made from waterfall water.

pickled gourd that i ordered over an early japanese dinner before heading home...spicy, sour and absolutely delicious! not too bad for a random food risk i took :p

and we ended a road trip with a road trip favourite, junks!

Kuantan Finally!! Part 1

me and my makan buddies went on a road trip to kuantan to visit a good friend sometime back and we took a lot of pictures and took in a whole lotsa food too! it was about a 4-hour drive to kuantan from klang but it was definitely worth it!

ahh...the much anticipated...

presenting...THE famous stuffed crabs of kemaman.

i'd never thought that i'll ever say this about the insides of a crab but oh my! GLORIOUS!

our bountiful and super delicious lunch in full spread.

after resting a little while, we headed to find a little special delicacy.

pyee said we had to try this and made kuan made it a mission to hunt this down.

satar, this is an interesting thing to sample, the closest words that popped in my head while eating this was juicy fish paste. it didn't taste fishy at all, sweet succulent and a little interesting. :)

otak-otak, here in kuantan, it is prepared with a chunk-piece of fish in sambal-like sweet & spicy sauce, unlike the mousse ones that i'm used to.

stringy keropok lekor??? the makcik was boiling these, packed them with newspapers for customers to take home.

the modest looking warung satar.

we stopped here for tea-break.

roti and kopi, perfect for an afternoon fiasco.

we stopped by the beach for a wonderful time.

we came here for dinner.

herbal tea in bottles that can be passed off as beers!

herbal chicken

curry prawns...this is my favourite dish of the night.

i can't remember the name of this pork dish...

and end the day with a sweet note, ice-kacang by the beach...yummmzz!!

yes yes girls, i know, this is looooong overdue but hey, it's here now so let's revisit our makan journey again...in our minds unfortunately hehe.

part 2 coming right up!

where : kuantan

Satar @ Warung Che Wan, Kemaman

Our jalan-jalan cari makan expedition has brought us to Kemaman for some Satar. We have been introduced to Satar by Itadakimasu, and ckkuan managed to scout us the best Satar in Kemaman, Warung Che Wan.

It’s a triangular shaped fish paste wrapped in banana leaf, BBQ-ed over low fire.

We ordered a set of 16 pieces and initially we had doubts about finishing them as our stuffed crab we had in Tong Juan have yet to digest. Grilled to perfection, the Satar is sweet and juicy without the fishy smell.

Yumz….. will definitely visit this place again. Other than the Satar, they also serve otak-otak, keropok lekor, laksa, nasi air and other malay delicacies.
