Begging for More @ Jugra (Beggar's Chicken)

yesterday, a bunch of us went to Jugra to finally savour the much talked about beggar's chicken after a year long's wait and boy it was sooo worth the wait!

a good friend, kokseng wore multiple hats, bringing us to this village-y restaurant in a remote place that only entertain diners by appointment only! kokseng, being a superb host of the day made all the necessary arrangements prior to bringing us there and we couldn't have been more glad that he took the lead! he booked us a table, ordered all the dishes and even brought us to see his future beach house which we have booked in advance for 2010 christmas party!

the chicken was cooked in this little 'hot room' that looked like it belonged to a construction site rather than a restaurant...there was mud involved in the preparation and at a corner, there was pails of mud and they just further complemented the 'construction site' feel.

we certainly felt the heat...

i must say the 'cooking' process was not very pretty...looked more like cement packs from a construction site hahaha!

we played 'Guess' when these arrived.

presenting the famous beggar's chicken of Jugra! sampled it and totally understand why people would travel to eat this. everything tasted just right, the meat wasn't hard, the sauce was just right although a little bit herb-y but well, we did order a herb-fused dish so...

i'm not a big fan of duck but this duck was awesome!

this pork knuckles was really tasty too! and the meat was just so tender and juicy!

the fish was served in a fish-cake form and arranged quite interestingly too! (compared to the rest of the dishes which scored 0 in presentation effort)

we paid about RM 258 for 6 dishes which included vegetables and a chicken soup (which by the way was super tasty, the meat of the chicken has the herb-y taste too as opposed to the most that i've tried before which only had the soup tasting good and the chicken meat tasteless) which were not featured here.

if i recall properly, i believe the chicken was RM 48. hahaha, sorry, was too engrossed in my food to really remember and i think someone threw away the bill so for the lack of accuracy, i'll just say it's about rm50 max for anything 'beggar prepared'.

and our makan trip didn't just end there, we then went to Morib...(see following post).
